Straps

The days are long past when binocular straps were made simply to hang the binoculars around the user’s neck. Of course, the binoculars strap of that sort is still available, and it is the type of binocular strap preferred by many people who use binoculars frequently. But now there are other ways in which to bear binocular straps.

One new method for carrying your field glasses is the binocular shoulder strap. This clever device takes the weight of the binoculars off your neck. Carrying binoculars suspended from your neck on a long hike can become quite uncomfortable after awhile, and if there is contact between the binocular strap and bare skin, there can be chafing. Moreover, the binoculars bouncing off your chest can become annoying. It can also cause unwanted noise if you are hunting or trying to get close to an exceptionally timid species of bird. With the shoulder binocular strap holding your binoculars close to your body, you no longer have that problem. You can get this great innovation in binocular strap design in an elasticized or non-elasticized version.

A similar but somewhat varied type of binocular strap is the body harness type. This type of binocular strap criss-crosses the wearer’s body under the arms and over the shoulders, providing plenty of support without discomfort. The shoulder and body harness binocular straps are easy to attach, adjustable, and can fit most types of field binoculars. Most models are made from easy to clean materials. They are great for hunting, bird watching, hiking, and many other outdoor activities. These straps keep the binoculars out of your way when you’re not actually using them, but allow you to bring the glasses into action quickly when you do need them.

Of course, many birders, night sky watchers and other enthusiasts of activities that require the use of binoculars prefer the more traditional straps that go around the neck. No matter which type of strap is your preference, you should examine the various brand name binocular straps before you choose on. The Swift binocular strap is very popular. Swift Audubon and Specialty Birding optics and accessories have received very good reviews. So, too, have Eagle optics binocular straps. A very good buy is the Canon 8x23a binoculars with case and neck strap. You might also want to try the Steiner 10x50 binocular and strap. You can find good binocular straps online, but you might want to try on the body and shoulder straps to see how they feel. You can find a binocular strap in a Los Angeles store or a New York City store, or any place in between that specializes in sporting goods or optical equipment.
